Principal's Message
It is a privilege to lead a community that values public education with a strong tradition of excellence, providing numerous enriching opportunities and encouraging students to be their best self. The unofficial motto of Mackellar is that 'Mackellar Girls can do Anything'. This was adopted in 1966 when girls were able to learn on the same basis as boys and is still as strong a statement today as it has ever been.
At Mackellar we encourage students to strive towards our four key values:
- Compassion: Demonstrate care for others. Develop empathy by being able to understand others with a desire to act.
- Integrity: Be honest and trustworthy. Take responsibility for actions and act in accordance with good morals such as tolerance and respect.
- Participation: Embrace opportunities. Take part in school events. Pursue new challenges. Commit to working positively with others within our school and the greater community.
- Resilience: Face challenges with determination, persistence and a positive mindset. Develop self-regulation, social-emotional skills and agility.
We are firm believers in supporting high expectations for students in terms of academic growth, performance, conduct and engagement while promoting a safe and inclusive environment. Students achieve best when they set and work towards their own aspirational goals for improvement and we work together in an unfailing manner to support students to reach these.
I am proud to lead a school that embraces this priority by promoting every student to find meaning by engaging in their learning and the plethora of co-curricular opportunities that exist. Not many other schools have such a rich diversity of programs and initiatives.
I believe that every student can find their unique and valued place at Mackellar.
