Wellbeing
At our college, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.

Ms Kylie Walker (Senior Psychologist-Education). While Ms Walker supervises the counselling team, she is also able to provide additional support.

Female students
Ms Lissa Woolven is the supervisor of girls (located in the English staffroom), and is available to help female students who might need guidance or assistance with any difficulties they may encounter in their school life. These might include issues specific to female students, such as feminine health, general wellbeing issues such as emotional or social concerns, or coping with academic stress.
Meetings are held throughout the year to discuss girls' issues, develop friendships among students from different year groups and organise fundraising events. In this way, female students are given opportunities for leadership, mentoring and giving back to the community.
Male students
For our boys to grow up into successful men who can make a meaningful contribution to society, their cognitive, social, physical and emotional wellbeing needs need to be met. The supervisor of boys Mr Scott White, is available to help our male students who might need guidance or assistance with any difficulties they may encounter in their school life.
Ethos at Manly (EAM) is a program that our junior boys participate in. It involves teaching skills of persistence, resilience, as well as development of social language and behaviours. Mr White is located in the PDHPE Staffroom during most break times and is happy to assist with mentoring or guidance for students.
Immunisations
Each year Manly Campus works with NSW Health to offer the vaccines recommended and funded for adolescents by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
The following vaccines will be offered:
Year 7
- Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (2 doses at least 6 months apart)
- Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine (single dose)
Year 10
- Meningococcal ACWY vaccine (single dose)
Information packs and consent forms are distributed to students in term one. Immunisations are given during school time at no cost to families, and teachers and nurses are on hand to support students who may be anxious. Parents should check the school calendar for immunisation dates.
The immunisation program is coordinated by Ms Lissa Woolven (supervisor of girls) and Mr Scott White (supervisor of boys).
If parents have any questions about the immunisation program, they should contact the teacher responsible for their child's year. However, you will need to contact NSW Health on 1300 066 055 for information regarding your child's vaccination history, as the school does not keep vaccination records. You can also find more information at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation.
