Integrated Studies Support Unit

We provide a supportive, inclusive, and individualised Special Education Program designed to meet the diverse learning needs of our students.

The Integrated Studies Support Unit is a valued and highly regarded part of Cromer Campus and the wider College community.

Our unit consists of six classes staffed by Special Education Teachers and School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs). In addition to targeted literacy and numeracy lessons, students access the full range of mandatory subjects—HSIE, Science, Visual Arts, Music, PDHPE and Technological and Applied Studies (TAS)—taught by specialist teachers.

Students in the Support Unit are active participants in all school events and may attend mainstream classes where appropriate to support their individual learning goals. Planned Community Access days provide opportunities to develop essential life skills, including safe travel, functional literacy and numeracy, healthy meal preparation and positive social interaction.

Enrichment programs

Our students also engage in a range of enrichment programs such as:

The Support Unit runs a composting initiative in partnership with local community organisations including One Meal and the Kimbriki School Waste Reduction Program, supporting authentic learning about sustainability and environmental responsibility.

A highlight of our year is the annual Evening of Celebration, where students showcase their achievements and talents. Senior students host the event, providing valuable leadership and public speaking experience.

Placement

Placement in the Integrated Studies Support Unit is determined through a formal selection panel and Access Request process.

All students are supported to achieve meaningful outcomes through the Life Skills curriculum, guided by dedicated teachers and SLSOs who nurture curiosity, confidence and independence.
