Learning
Cromer Campus
Cromer Campus provides holistic and personalised learning for all our students in a supportive, caring and inclusive learning environment.
Curriculum
Cromer Campus provides a wide range of curriculum opportunities through its faculties.
Like all NSW schools, we have developed teaching and learning programs to suit our local context and the needs of our students.
In Creative Arts, students explore a variety of expressive art forms such as Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts. Through the study of Creative Arts, students learn to appreciate, compose, listen, create and perform.
Students study 100 hours of mandatory Music and Visual Arts in Stage 4 with the opportunity to elect Dance and Music as an additional course.
In Stages 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills by choosing elective subjects in Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts.
Within elective subjects students are provided with personalised, rich and in-depth learning experiences that encourage subject expertise and creative thinking.
Additionally, the Creative Arts faculty provides opportunities for students to participate in a number of co-curricular activities including dance and music ensembles, choir and art club.
There are two available extension classes in Creative and Performing Arts for incoming year 7 students.

The study of English in all its forms enables students to expand their horizons by delving into new and unknown worlds where they can make connections, understand the world they are a part of and become confident critical thinkers.
Developing proficiency in English enables students to take their place as confident communicators; critical and imaginative thinkers; lifelong learners; and informed, active participants in Australian society. Their understanding of English through knowledge and skills acquisition is essential to their intellectual, social and emotional development.
We aim to develop our students’ ability to critically analyse and evaluate the world around them by encouraging our core values of acceptance, tolerance, multiculturalism and self-awareness. Students are given the confidence to develop their own point of view as well as listen to and understand those of others.
Studying a broad range of texts develops students’ ability to understand, articulate and justify their point of view as well as understand the plurality of perspectives in a 21st century context. Students today read more than their parents and grand-parents and are increasingly challenged to navigate a multidimensional and fast paced digital environment. It is essential that students are equipped to meet these challenges critically and imaginatively.
The English Faculty at NBSC Cromer Campus is committed to meeting these challenges by delivering quality educational experiences to a diverse range of students ensuring the development of individual skills in a collegial and inclusive environment

Languages play an important role in helping students develop communication skills and an appreciation of cultural diversity.
All NSW students complete 100 hours of language study in Years 7–10
At Cromer Campus this includes Chinese (Mandarin) at Mandatory, Elective and HSC levels, as well as French in Year 8 as an elective.
Through speaking, reading, writing and listening activities, students learn in real-world contexts while exploring the cultures, traditions and values of francophone and Chinese-speaking societies.
Language learning equips students with valuable skills for future work, travel and global engagement.

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.
Our challenge is to engage all of our students so that they can achieve their best mathematical learning outcomes. Our aim is to develop students' mathematical thinking, understanding, competence and confidence in the application of mathematics while capturing their creativity, enjoyment and appreciation of the subject, and their engagement in lifelong learning.
Cromer Campus offers Mathematics Enrichment classes in Years 7 and 8. These classes focus on the Working Mathematically strand of the syllabus and students do work that is more challenging and designed to provoke curiosity and deepen mathematical insight. Students look at alternate and more sophisticated techniques and proofs.
In Years 9 and 10, the students follow the Core–Paths structure which is designed to encourage aspiration in students and provide the flexibility needed to enable teachers to create pathways for students working towards Stage 6. The structure is intended to extend students as far along the continuum of learning as possible and provide solid foundations for the highest levels of student achievement. The structure allows for a diverse range of endpoints up to the end of Stage 5.
Year 11 and 12, the study of mathematics is optional. Courses offered include:
- Mathematics Advanced
- Mathematics Extension 1
- Mathematics Extension 2
- Mathematics Standard 1
- Mathematics Standard 2.
Cromer Campus students have unlimited access to the Mathspace website. This resource is integrated into lessons and can be used at home at any time. This program has seen an improvement in students' results and engagement with mathematics. Senior students also have access to ATOMI.
